Worked with Erin Dryer and Matt (Elkins) at Lumberock to restructure the site navigation from a collections-first model to a customer journey model organized by project type (backyard decking, dock and waterfront, porch and historic, custom and specialty), based on feedback Erin gathered from Lumberock's VP and sales directors. Agreed the existing collection page layout and homepage blocks work fine for the new project pages, and Chris will build one additional performance-page layout (marine grade, low maintenance, etc) to cover detail pages. Next meeting moved to Tuesday 10:45-11:15 (after Memorial Day) to review the flat homepage/collection mockups and decide which of the 45 existing pages get cut versus carried over.

What came out of it
Decisions5
  • Shifted site navigation strategy from shopping-by-collection to shopping-by-project-type (backyard decking, dock/waterfront, porch/historic, custom/specialty)
  • Collections (Genesis, Classic, Coastal, Brand, Artisan) will remain but as a secondary layer under project type
  • Project pages and collection pages will share the same general layout/block structure
  • Text links (not shop buttons) will be used to cross-link performance/detail pages like marine grade decking
  • Next meeting moved to Tuesday 10:45-11:15am due to Memorial Day
Risks and blockers3
  • Traffic dipped after a prior site transition because unique profile/size pages were lost
  • OEM/Artisan products and profile-size pages need proper categorization or SEO value could keep being lost
  • 45 legacy pages still need to be triaged into the new structure without creating excessive manual rebuild work
Open questions2
  • Which of the 45 existing pages will be cut versus carried over as-is?
  • How specific should the custom/specialty bucket be for OEM and Artisan products?
Next steps5
  • MeSend Erin flat versions of the homepage and collection page layouts as image files
  • MeDesign a new performance/detail page layout using existing blocks
  • ClientReview the remaining 45 pages and determine which to cut or keep
  • ClientShare Sophie's SEO presentation and traffic-drop findings with Chris
  • MeBegin development once content layouts are finalized
